Amritsar

Amritsar was founded by Sri Guru Ramdass ji, the fourth guru of the Sikhs in about 1574 A.D. Before the city was founded, the area was covered with thick forests and had several lakes. To start the city the Guru invited 52 traders from different sectors belongings to nearby places like Patti and Kasur to settle here.

Amritsar is the largest and most important city in Punjab and is a major commercial, cultural, and transportation centre.

Amritsar, colloquially known as Ambarsar and historically known as Ramdaspur is located in the Punjab state of India. It derives its name from Amrit Sarovar.

Durgiana Temple

Shri Durgiana Mandir, is a Hindu temple situated in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. Though a Hindu temple, its architecture is similar to the Sikh Harmandir Sahib. This temple derives its name from the Goddess Durga, the chief Goddess who is worshipped here. 

One of the most prominent landmarks of Amritsar, the Durgiana Temple emits a sense of calm, peace, and spirituality.

Gobindgarh Fort

Gobindgarh Fort is a historic military fort located in the center of the city of Amritsar in the Indian state of Punjab. The Fort was until recently occupied by the army but was opened to the public from 10 February 2017.  A local chieftain of the Bhangi Misl named Gujar Singh Bhangi built it as a mud fortress in the 18thcentury, and hence the name. Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the first maharaja of the Sikh Empire, conquered the fort in the early 19thcentury.

Golden temple

The Golden temple is famous for its full golden dome; it is one of the most sacred pilgrim spots for Sikhs. The Mandir is built on a 67-ft square of marble and is a two storied structure. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had the upper half of the building built with approximately 400 kg of gold leaf.

Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is at the heart of Amritsar. One of the most popular gurudwaras in the country, it is also the most grand looking of them all. It’s not just the looks of it that attracts the visitors, it’s the whole energy. There’s that peace and quiet you experience as soon as you step inside the temple complex.

Jallianwala Bagh

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre marked a turning point in India’s struggle for Independence. A memorial was set up by the Government of India in 1951 at Jallianwala Bagh to commemorate the spirit of Indian revolutionaries and the people who lost their lives in the brutal massacre.

It stands as a symbol of struggle and sacrifice and continues to instill patriotism amongst the youth. In March 2019, the Yaad-e-Jallian Museum was inaugurated showcasing an authentic account of the massacre.
